I couldn't decide if I wanted to compare to an extant garment or an illustration, so you get both!

  1. Nice comparisons. The design is quite like fish scales. There is a woman working at the moment as a home interiors designer who sells mainly cushions with this type of texture, it's knitted on. I'll try and remember her name and come back!

  2. You never know with museum pieces if real women wore these dresses to real dinners and parties. They might have been made for a model to wear once, in a fashion show.

But my granny's going-away dress, after her 1923 wedding, was exactly the same as your 1925 evening dress from The Metropolitan Museum of Art. I love the idea.
